Cebu City
A tiered Chinese temple in Beverly Hills with city views from its terraces
Built in the 1970s by Cebu's Chinese community, the temple climbs a hillside in the Beverly Hills subdivision on a flight of ninety-nine steps, with dragons along the balustrades and a replica of the Great Wall's gateway at the entrance.
It is an active place of worship — devotees have their fortunes read on Wednesdays and Sundays — and the upper terraces look out over the whole of Metro Cebu to Mactan.
In Beverly Hills, Lahug, roughly twenty minutes by taxi from uptown Cebu City. There is no jeepney route to the gate.
