Oslob
Swim alongside gentle whale sharks in their natural habitat
The Oslob whale shark encounter is a bucket-list experience for marine enthusiasts. Located on the southern tip of Cebu, this stretch of coast is home to a resident population of whale sharks that can be seen year-round.
The interaction is regulated to protect the animals, and visitors are briefed on strict guidelines before entering the water — no touching, no flash photography, and a fixed minimum distance. Encounters run in small groups led by local boat operators, most of whom are former fishermen from Tan-awan.
Sessions last about thirty minutes in the water. Arrive early: the queue builds quickly after seven, and the light is best in the first hour after sunrise.
From Cebu City, take a van or private car heading south. The journey takes approximately 2-3 hours depending on traffic. Ceres buses to Bato via Oslob leave the South Bus Terminal roughly every half hour.
