Cookies

Last updated

CebuFest can set 5 cookies. Two remember a choice you made and are always there. The rest are for counting page views, and none of them is set unless you say yes. We set no advertising cookies at all.

What we set

cebufest-theme
Remembers whether you chose the light or the dark colour scheme, so the site does not flash the wrong one on your next visit.
Set: When you press the light/dark toggle in the header.
Lasts: 1 year
cebufest-trip
Holds the list of places you have added to your trip, so your selection survives moving between pages. It is a list of published place identifiers and nothing else.
Set: When you add or remove a place from your trip.
Lasts: 7 days, restarted each time you change your selection
cebufest-consent
Remembers whether you said yes or no to analytics, so you are not asked again on every page. It holds that one answer and the version of the notice you answered.
Set: When you answer the cookie banner — either way.
Lasts: 182 days
_ga
Set by Google Analytics to count visits and page views. It tells us which pages are read and which are not; it is not used to build a profile of you or to show you advertising.
Set: Only if you agree to analytics. Never otherwise.

The cookie banner

The analytics cookies above are not needed to give you what you asked for, so we ask before setting them. On your first visit a banner puts the question plainly, with agreeing and refusing side by side — one click each, the same size, neither hidden behind a second screen.

Until you answer, and permanently if you answer no, the Google script is never requested and no analytics cookie is set. It is not loaded and switched off; it is not loaded.

Whichever you choose, your answer is remembered in the cebufest-consent cookie so you are not asked again on every page — including when you say no, because a banner that keeps coming back is not really asking. To change your mind, use Cookie choices at the bottom of any page and the question comes back.

If we ever change what we track or who we share it with, the question is asked again rather than assumed answered.

How to remove them

Every browser can clear cookies for a single site, usually under settings for privacy, site data or site permissions. Clearing CebuFest’s cookies erases everything the site holds about your visit, without needing to ask us.

Doing so has two visible effects:

  • The colour scheme goes back to following your device’s light-or-dark setting.
  • Your trip selection empties, and any places you had added are forgotten.
  • Your answer to the cookie banner is forgotten too, so it will ask again — and the analytics cookies themselves are removed.

Nothing else breaks — the whole site works with cookies blocked, you will simply have to make those choices again on each visit. A trip plan you have already generated keeps working, because the plan is in its own link rather than in a cookie.

Cookies from other companies

Google Analytics is the only other company that can set a cookie here, and only after you agree to it. There is no advertising network and no embedded social widget on any page.

Booking partners are different, but only once you leave: if you follow a Check availability link, the partner’s own site may set its own cookies under its own policy. That is described in our affiliate disclosure.
