About This Festival

On 27 April 1521 Lapu-Lapu's men met Magellan's landing party in the shallows off Mactan. The re-enactment stages it on the same shoreline, with a cast of several hundred and a script that has been argued over for decades.

It runs for a couple of hours in the morning, before the heat, and the shore fills long before it starts.

What to Expect

  • A morning start — the shoreline fills an hour ahead
  • Standing room along the water, little shade
  • A short, staged battle rather than an all-day parade

Getting There

Punta Engaño is at the far end of Mactan Island, twenty minutes from the airport and about an hour from Cebu City across either bridge — longer on the day itself.
