About This Festival

Haladaya takes its name from Datu Daya, the chieftain credited with defending the northern coast against raiders. The street dance retells it, loudly, over two days on and around the town plaza.

It is small enough that visitors are conspicuous and welcome, and it sits close enough to Malapascua for a diving trip to absorb it without changing plans.

What to Expect

  • A street dance and a plaza showdown rather than an arena
  • Food stalls around the plaza through both days
  • Very little English signage — ask, and someone will explain

Getting There

Bus from Cebu North Bus Terminal to Maya, about four hours, and get off at Daanbantayan poblacion. The same road continues to the Malapascua boats.
